During the Carry Bradshaw and Sex and The City days, every woman’s goal was to have a closet full of high heels. Of course, not all of us could afford Jimmy Choo’s and D&G’s, neither could Carry actually, but we still tried and at least owned a couple of 4 to 5 inch heels and strutted the streets proudly. Since then, times have changed drastically. Although the kitten heel made an effort to rule the runway it never made the transition into the mainstream. Flats, on the other hand, rule the streets and have for quite a while now. What’s more surprising is how quickly everyone (regular people and designers) caught on, and now flats are a must.
Although it took me a while to begin wearing flats – not all of them are comfortable, especially when walking the whole day – I am now a proud owner of 2 pairs and want more. I will let you in on a little secret of where to get the funkies, cutest, most attention grabbing flats. There is a sunny shoe store that specializes in flats and resembles a retro candy store that Shirley Temple would have shopped in, and is appropriately named Chocolate Shoes (639 Queen St. West on the 2nd floor, above Five). The flats feature everything from polka dots, to pompoms, to any colour in the book, to lace, to everything mixed together and all of them are fashionably displayed around the boutique. I bet that Jimmy Choo will not get your feet as much attention as a pair of flats from Chocolate Shoes, and your feet will thank you in the end also.
If you’re a shoe fanatic, Chocolate Shoes is a must to visit. There is also a blog you can follow if you’re that lazy, http://chocolateshoes-toronto.blogspot.com/. Either way, enjoy and stay gorgeous!
